Add a Solar Panel to Keep Your Backup Battery Topped Up

A few weeks ago, I wrote about building a simple, home backup power  system for charging phones during extended electricity outages. However, there's a limitation to any battery system, and that is that any battery
power supply will eventually become depleted. I reckon to get a  theoretical 13 days out of mine. What happens, in a catastrophic event,  if grid power isn't restored at the end of 13 days?

Google Plans Mysterious Wireless Network Project

Google has filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a new or modified radio station for an experimental radio service other than broadcast. The initial base station will be deployed on Google's campus in Mountain View, Calif.

A new specification being pushed by the USB 3.0 Promoter Group offers double the current throughput rate while maintaining backward compatibility.
The latest generation of USB 3.0 technology supports data transfer rates of up to 5Gbps, and has been one answer to the increasing I/O bottleneck for many peripheral devices, especially high-speed storage solutions.
The backward compatibility of USB 3.0 with prior versions of the protocol has made it quite convenient for users, but it has competition from the Thunderbolt technology from Intel and Apple. Thunderbolt has quadruple the overall data throughput of USB 3.0 and is far more configurable.read more

Dawn of a new wireless: first 802.11ac router available today

Texas-based networking company Buffalo announced its first 802.11ac wireless router and wireless media bridge are available today for retail purchase. The two networking products are backwards compatible with 802.11n devices, but also feature the latest ac wireless standard.
Earlier this year, Buffalo promised the arrival of this next-generation router in the summer, but last month Netgear announced its similar router would be arriving in May. Today, it looks like Buffalo hustled enough to be able to call "first."read more
